6 Best Weebly Alternatives: Find Superior Website Builders

The best Weebly alternative we recommend is Wix, thanks to its ease of use, professional designs, and feature-rich builder. Weebly was once one of the more popular website builders – its built-in features and service-based business templates made this platform stand out. But Weebly’s not quite kept up with the competition. In our research and testing Weebly has seen some major reductions in its scores for design, features, and value for money since last year.
That’s why we’ve put in the research to discover some great alternatives. Wix comes in first place and steams far ahead of Weebly, because of the impressive features that you can use to enhance your Wix site. Squarespace really shines for its stylish templates, and Shopify is a great choice for businesses looking to scale a powerful ecommerce site.

We’ve spent years researching and testing website builders, and are now in a great position to help match you with the right solution. We’ve rated the best website builders on the market, but the best platform isn’t always the right one for you. That’s why we’ve put together this article.
As part of this research process, we investigate:
- Features
- Design functionalities and templates
- Value for money
- Help and support
- Customer satisfaction
- Ease of use
When investigating these categories there are even more subcategories and criteria that we test to get a full picture of a builder’s capabilities. We typically pay close attention to testing editors for ease of use, and to the marketing, ecommerce, and design tools because these features support online growth and selling.
We get everyday people to test the builders to give us more personalized feedback and evidence of hands-on experience. Then once all the categories have been tested and scored we can compare and contrast the data – and then we can tell you what the six best Weebly alternatives are and why.

Pros
- Easy and intuitive drag-and-drop editor

Cons

- Editor can feel overwhelming
Wix sets the standard when it comes to website builders with an overall score of 4.8 out of 5. It offers over 800 beautifully designed templates to choose from, and an intuitive drag-and-drop editor to boot. Wix is also much easier to use than Weebly. In our ease of use testing Wix scores an impressive 4.4 out of 5, making it the easiest to use builder we’ve tested — compared to Weebly’s slightly less beginner-friendly rating of 3.7 out of 5.
When it comes to features Wix has the best around, scoring 4.8 out of 5 in our research. It supports anything from blogs and ecommerce, to service-based businesses and multilingual sites.
If you can’t find a feature you need, Wix also has an extensive app store you can tap into to find what you’re looking for and install it. Website building can be made even easier too, with a design assisted option, Wix ADI. This works by asking you a series of questions before designing your website for you – a service Weebly doesn’t offer.
Wix has a totally free plan, and its paid plans range from $16/month to $159/month depending on your needs, and there’s even a two-week money-back guarantee.

Squarespace is a platform that oozes class. It’s tailor-made for creative industries, with templates so divine that anybody would think you’re a web developer. And that’s a huge plus, considering 94% of website first impressions are design related. So, if you care about design, Squarespace is a superior Weebly alternative, with an impressive design score of 4.7 out of 5 compared to Weebly’s mediocre 2.3 out of 5.
Weebly’s designs are outdated and have fallen by 8% in score since last years research. In testing, our users were particularly disappointed by its poor mobile formatting, which is a worrying factor when it comes to SEO. This is why Weebly scores so low for design in our research. In contrast, Squarespace has the best design score out of all the builders we’ve tested, with a whopping 4.7 out of 5.
There’s more to Squarespace than just looks, though – in our research, Squarespace scores highly for features with 4.6 out of 5. Squarespace’s feature score has increased by 4% since last year, compared to Weebly’s features score of 3.1 out of 5, which has decreased by 11% since last year. This suggests that Squarespace is a far more scalable choice than Weebly, combining style and substance!
When it comes to value for money, Squarespace is the better value option with a value score of 4.6 out of 5 – a whopping 15% increase since last year’s testing, and the only builder to increase its value score in our rankings amidst recent price increases. When you look at Weebly’s value score, it paints a different picture – it saw a whopping 36% decrease to 3.2 out of 5.
Squarespace’s premium plans range from $16–$49/month. The top two plans will allow you to create online stores, and there is a two-week free trial, so you can spend some time tinkering before committing to the platform.

#3. Shopify
Best for Building a Scalable Online Store
Shopify
Best for building a scalable online store
- All-in-one solution
- Best for big inventories
- Wealth of apps
Free trial available
Paid Plans: $29 - $299 / month
Pros
- Multi-channel integration
- Strong server response time
- Predicts merchant needs
Cons
- Restrictive design options
- Few in-built features
- Can have high transaction fees
If you’re looking to build a large online store, Weebly won’t be up to the job. Weebly has some features to sell online, but it’s a website builder first and foremost, not an ecommerce platform. For those who only want an online store, it’s best to look at dedicated services like Shopify.
Shopify has tons of features and apps that help you not only sell your items, but actively grow your profits. It also provides everything from SEO guidance and email marketing, to mobile responsive themes and multi-channel integration (which helps you sell across marketplaces and social media).
What really sets Shopify apart are the breadth of payment options it gives customers and how popular the builder is with users. Shopify received a customer score of 4.8 out of 5 – making it the most well received builder in our testing.
The downside to Shopify isa poor value for money score with a rating of 3 out of 5, especially in comparison to other builders like Weebly that has 3.2 out of 5. Shopify’s value score is so low not because its features aren’t great, but rather there are some transaction fees and extra costs like paying for themes. But it does offer a 3-day free trial before you dive into the paid plans. They range from $29–$299/month.

#4. GoDaddy
Best for Building a Website Quickly
GoDaddy
Best for building a website quickly
- Build a site in minutes
- Good all-around choice
- Excellent SEO tool
Free trial available
Paid Plans: $6.99 - $469.99 / month
Pros
- Reformats site to new themes
- User-friendly editor
- Good for smaller websites
Cons
- Generic-looking designs
- Restrictive block elements
- Average features
GoDaddy is a brand synonymous with the online world. Whether you’re looking to build a website, host one, or just buy a domain name, GoDaddy has you covered. Its website builder mainly focuses on speed and usability. It helps to create the initial design of your website for you by asking a series of questions about the site’s purpose.
In terms of design, GoDaddy gets the third best score of 4.1 out of 5. The templates offered aren’t as stylistic as Wix or Squarespace but certainly offer a lot more than Weebly. The editor is really easy to use – GoDaddy is the second-easiest builder after Wix and Squarespace, with a 4.1 out of 5 score for ease of use. It’s also fast because GoDaddy’s ADI asks questions about the site you want to build, and does the work to make the site template for you.
If you need something up online ASAP, GoDaddy is your best bet. There’s a free plan, and four paid plans that range from $9.99–$16.99/month. GoDaddy works best for simple businesses or personal sites, but it’s surprisingly adept at creating sleek and functional online stores, too.

#5. Square Online
Better for Small Stores
Square Online
Better for Small Stores
- Affordable builder
- Sell unlimited items free
- Quick to use
Free plan available
Paid Plans: $12 - $79 / month
Pros
- Unlimited selling on free plan
- Great ecommerce features
- Automatic tax calculator
Cons
- Limited templates
- Learning curve when you start
- Transaction fees
Square Online has some major positives, like being one of very few platforms to let you start selling absolutely for free. Square Online is ideal for starting sellers who need to save on getting their items out into the world – and the same goes for creatives and business sites. The truth is, Square Online is a decent, middle-of-the-road platform that’s perfectly capable, but hardly inspiring when it comes to design.
Scoring a really unimpressive 2.6 out of 5 for design, you won’t have a stand out aesthetic for your Square Online site. That said, it is a good alternative to Weebly, which hasn’t updated its templates in a very long time and only scores 2.3 out of 5 for design.
Square Online is undeniably a great option if you’re creating an online store and cost is an important factor for you – it scores 4.1 out of 5 in our testing for price, making it a better value option than Weebly, Wix, and Shopify!
Square Online’s prices range from free – with just a transaction fee of 2.9% + 30¢ – to paid plans of between $29 – $79 per month (billed annually). Similarly to Weebly, Square Online also has a free plan that you can stay on as long as you like. While Square Online’s starter plan is more expensive than Weebly’s, Square Online offers much better value for money. It has better designs and features, and even lets you sell for free, which is pretty rare, and makes Square Online sweet for new entrepreneurs.

#6. Hostinger
Good for Creating a Website Using AI Tools
Hostinger - Web Builder
Good for creating a website using AI tools
- Primarily hosting
- Good value for money
- Poor features comparative
Paid Plans: $2.69 - $39.99 / month
Pros
- Fairly easy to use
- Drag-and-drop builder
- Build personalized web apps
Cons
- Poor help and support
- Lacking app market
- Features are lackluster
Hostinger is perfect for you if you want an easy to design website, at pretty good value for money with a value score of 4 out of 5. Its templates provide you with a great starting base, and there are helpful tips along the way, offering advice and guidance along the way. It’s also a drag-and-drop builder, so you’re not so restricted to a rigid template.
All that comes at a cost, though, with no free plan and website features that don’t help you expand your business, with the lowest feature score of all builders on this list at just 2.8 out of 5. That’s why we usually recommend Hostinger for portfolio sites. That being said, Hostinger does offer three months totally free if you sign up for the 49-month contract, so that’s great news!

How to Choose a Weebly Alternative
It can be overwhelming when looking for the right website builder – there are so many out there to choose from. There are a number of things to consider when making your choice, and we’ve listed the top few to be aware of here:
- The type of website you want is probably the most important factor to consider. If you’re in a creative industry and want value for money something like Squarespace is most suitable. For larger businesses selling online you’ll find the right fit with Shopify, and so on. If the website is for personal or business use and you want the best features, Wix offers the best.
- Your computer skill level can also impact your decision. The easiest platforms to use are Wix, Squarespace, and GoDaddy – and all have fantastic support if you’re worried about getting stuck.
- How much time you have can also play a part in your decision. If you need a website up ASAP, it may be worth using GoDaddy, or another design assisted tool like Wix ADI.
Is Weebly Right for You?
One thing that’s important to stress is that Weebly isn’t a bad website builder — it just hasn’t updated its offering in a long time and has fallen behind the times.
Weebly suffered the most in our recent research, seeing a significant reduction in scores across all categories. We found it to be quite dated in comparison to the rest of the market, especially when Wix and Squarespace are so advanced.
We’d recommend Weebly for someone completely new to website building that perhaps wants to practice their building skills. But it’s not the right fit for anyone looking for long-term growth online.
Where it’s let down, is its features, ease of use, and design features. From testing, people found Weebly a bit tricky to use with its challenging customization tools, and weren’t convinced they got the help they were looking for when stuck on something. Its support is limited, and the only 24/7 service is email which isn’t ideal if you want a speedy response.
So, if help and support and good design are your top priority, then we recommend checking out Squarespace, which is the only builder to score 4.8 for support and 4.7 out of 5, for design — at the very top for both.
Weebly’s prices range from $6 – $26/month, making it very reasonable, alongside a free plan you can use when getting to grips with the platform. But at what cost? It’s our belief that it’s better for you to invest your money in a builder that’s continuing to improve and adapt with the market.
